Diane Amans will be running a two day course for dancers and other practitioners who want to gain skills, knowledge and experience in leading dance activities with older people.

When: 16 June & 30 June 2012, 10.30am - 4.30pm
Where:
Greater Manchester

The training will help participants gain a greater understanding of the ageing process and how this impacts on safe practice in community dance. Whilst the content of a dance session - the actual activities - may be more or less the same for different age groups, it is usually necessary to adapt the pace or make other adjustments to ensure an inclusive approach.

The course will include:
  • Practical ideas for dance with older people (ranging from active independent older people to frail independent older people, including those living with dementia)
  • Overview of the ageing process and how this impacts on safe practice in community dance
  • Duty of care, risk assessment
  • Creative use of props
  • Starting points for creating dance which challenges stereotypes of ageing.
