National College for Community Dance Summer School 2010
The Summer School returned with its Pathway to Practice intermediate courses in 2010 at the excellently resourced PACE building, De Montfort University, Leicester.
The Summer School was a great success with top tutors and some great case studies shared. 20 course participants were awarded Certificates with 25 CPD hours from Foundation for Community Dance for their attendance at the Pathway to Practice courses.
The courses on offer were:
Dance, Health and Wellbeing with Lisa Dowler, Joe Moran, and Kate Gant
Dance and Disabled People with Isabel Jones, Jo Verrent, Lisa Simpson and DJ from Corali
Dance and Age Inclusive Practice (with a focus on older people) with Anne Colvin, Diane Amans and Bisakha Sarker.
Each participant chose an area of specialist interest to focus on, and this year we cross-fertilised courses more to allow sharing of knowledge between course groups, which worked really well for people. We continued with a common thread of leadership throughout the courses and new elements of choreographic practice relating to groups were a great hit.
Communal sessions included:
Choreographic practical sessions with top choreographers Rosemary Lee and Cecilia MacFarlane, evening talks on leadership and emotional intelligence with Deborah Barnard, creative survival in the current economic climate with Ken Bartlett and Chris Stenton and a film night sharing community dance experiences.
Optional extras:
Participants also had the opportunity to choose one to one life coaching sessions and to accredit their learning in the year following the course with post course mentor sessions and submit their portfolio for HE credits. Two course participants are planning to continue with post course evaluation with us in order to further accredit their learning at the Summer School to count towards post-graduate degrees they are working towards.
