Dance Training and Accreditation Partnership (DTAP)
As part of the development of the National College, FCD are taking a lead in supporting the Dance Training and Accreditation Partnership (DTAP) to develop core professional standards for community dance which will be applicable for all dance with people.Professional Standards will help our industry to be clear about the competencies required to work responsibly and inspiringly facilitating dance with people. Part of the process will be for us to establish both the most basic level and the most advanced level for each skill set. We will be working with some specialist consultancy groups as well as a core group of consultants, exploring standards for dance and disability, dance in the criminal justice system, dance and older people, dance and young people. The information from these specialist groups will inform the core standards as we seek elements that are common to all as well as looking at dance in specific settings.
For all of this to work we need your help and in June 2010 we will be inviting you to comment upon the work done so far so that you too can have your say in how these standards are developed and let us know if there are important elements that are missing. To ensure you are included in these discussions please register your interest at the top of this page.
Once adopted by the sector, these professional standards can then go through a process of approval as National Occupational Standards (NOS), which gives us a set of benchmarks by which we can seek to establish our professional competence and pathways to look to when improving our dance practice with people.
