The Dance Development Artist’s role will be instrumental in forging and sustaining strong community partnerships where 'Dance On' sessions and dance groups can establish and flourish longer term. The role will be a combination of dance delivery in the community, and local development with partners and stakeholders.
Working with our partners in the public and private sectors and our team of skilled freelance dance practitioners, the role will be responsible for the smooth running and quality assurance of the ‘Dance On’ activities and events.
‘Dance On’ is funded by Sport England as part of the Active Ageing Fund which aims to increase physical activity in inactive adults aged 50+. Yorkshire Dance and One Dance UK are working closely with Public Health in Leeds, Bradford and Doncaster to engage over 450 older adults in dance sessions in their communities. The programme aims to improve older people’s mental and physical health and reduce social isolation through dance.
Each Dance Development Artist will work intensively in local communities with older people and partner organisations to engage inactive people in fun, social and accessible dance programmes. The programme will include providing a range of dance styles and creative approaches, which can be inclusive of people with disabilities or long-term health conditions.
The Dance Development Artists for Leeds and Bradford will be employed by Yorkshire Dance and for Doncaster by darts, (Doncaster Community Arts). One Dance UK leads the overall regional programme.
You will need to demonstrate an aptitude for working across diverse communities and bring a highly motivated and organised approach. The role may include some evening and weekend work.
