To lead on embedding the UK’s Higher Education requirements into Central School of Ballet’s degree-level vocational training, ensuring that we provide an exceptional educational experience in which our students can thrive.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership

  • As a member of the Executive team, actively support the Executive Director and Artistic Director in the development and delivery of Central School of Ballet’s artistic vision and strategic plan working alongside the Director of Finance and Operations
  • Work with Executive and senior staff supporting good practice in the planning and delivery of Central’s distinctive vocational training through the FD, BA and MA Higher Education courses
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of the School’s Teaching and Learning Strategy to support on-going enhancement, working in close collaboration with the Artistic Director and teaching staff
  • Chair Central’s Academic Board, Learning and Teaching Committee and Research and Ethics Committee
  • Ensure that the School’s Higher Education courses meet the Office for Students conditions of registration that relate to the learning and student experience, and that student continuation, progression and satisfaction remain aligned with, or exceed, benchmarks
  • As a member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, work collaboratively in progressing and embedding these principles across the organisation, through the EDI Committee and EDI Plan
  • Attend Board of Governors meetings as a member of the Executive Team.

Managing Staff

  • Lead the work of the HE Department in relation to matters of programme design, administration, delivery, assessment and quality management.
  • Line-manage the Head of Studies and MA Course Lead, including providing support for their ongoing professional development
  • In dialogue with the Executive team, organise activities to support the professional development of staff involved in delivering HE provision
  • Support research, scholarship and research-led teaching in the School.

Programme Management

  • Ensure that the School has a policy and regulatory framework that supports the effective delivery of HE provision and associated student support, from registration to graduation
  • Work closely with colleagues on all matters relating to student support to ensure the right and fair opportunities are provided to students to enable them to succeed from entry through to employment, including working individually with some students
  • Lead the development and articulation of programme-related documentation including specifications, annual reviews, periodic reviews, responses to external examiners, validation and revalidation events
  • Oversee the Board of Examiners with the support of the Head of Studies
  • Liaise with the School’s validating body, the University of Kent, on all matters relating to quality assurance or students
  • Work in partnership with students to embed a School framework that ensures that their voices are easily heard and responded to through both informal and formal feedback (programme evaluations, representation, National Student Survey)
  • Prepare reports for relevant School committees, including the Board of Governors, and any sector documentation such as future Teaching Excellence Framework submissions
  • Manage student cases including complaints, appeals, academic misconduct and other misconduct, including investigations and hearings
  • Support the objectives of the Access and Participation Plan, as well as the widening participation agenda of the institution, ensuring the HE training supports the transition of new students into Central, their success and progression.
