Our new MA Dance: Participation, Communities, Activism course is reaching the end of an inspiring and successful first year of delivery, a year which has seen this pioneering course establish itself as a trailblazer of new ideas and initiatives on the fields of community and activist dance practice.
Our student body has a wide international spread, and we are likewise seeking to recruit a colleague with an extensive practice in a country of the Global South. Most of the work and teaching will be online and can be done from anywhere in the world.
The MA is for students who want to develop a socially engaged dance practice which addresses the urgencies of our times. Students join a global community of artists and researchers working at the intersection of community dance and arts activism.
This course explores the potential of movement and dance to contribute to the creation of sustainable social structures, to support individuals and communities to rehearse and perform collective actions and to challenge systemic inequity.
This Lecturer in Dance will act as a Unit Leader across different strands of the programme and will be a member of our globally diverse Curatorial Team which shares a collective responsibility for the course development, curriculum, recruitment and content, with Course Leader, Jo Parkes.
We are looking for someone with an extensive community/activist dance practice in a country of the Global South to join the inspiring team delivering this postgraduate course. This role can be worked remotely and so holding a residence in the UK is not required, though some infrequent visits to our London, UK site may be required. Please note that while its students and teachers are from around the globe, teaching and learning on this course is done in English.
Placing the student at the centre of the provision, this post holder will undertake teaching, unit management, and tutoring within the MA Dance: Participation, Communities, Activism course. Being part of the collective leadership structure of the MA, this Lecturer will share decentralised responsibility for areas of the development of the course and its curriculum with the Course Leader.
This is a 2-year, fixed-term, part-time contract (equivalent to 16 hours per week). These hours are inclusive of a one-hour paid lunch break each day. Your hours of work will be agreed with the line manager. The working days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Either payroll contracts or freelance arrangements can be considered for this role dependent on the needs of the successful candidate.
