Bursary helps Katie get to our 10th Summer School
Date posted: 29 June 2018
A Kettering-based dance practitioner wanting to make her practice even more inclusive has secured one of two bursaries from the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) to help its members attend this year’s 10th People Dancing Summer School.
Katie Reynolds
The other EFDSS bursary, which applies to Summer School courses held on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 July 2018, is still available.

Katie Reynolds, who runs Inspire Theatre Arts, teaches adult and children dance classes (including ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, freestyle and street), musical theatre, acro/gymnastic dance and adult fitness (including TAPFit, Dancercise and Step). She is also looking to start a local folk dance group. Katie, who found out about the EFDSS bursary when she attended a recent one-day course at the EFDSS on 'How to Teach English Social Folk Dance' (which is planned to be taken out across the country), will be taking six of the 12 Summer School courses.

After attending three courses at last year’s Summer School, Katie says she is looking to, “broaden my skill base, gain new ideas and get more experience of how dance helps different groups of people express themselves.”

And drawing on her experience of working in a Special Educational Needs School for three years and as a carer for children, adults and older people, Katie is a strong advocate for the inclusive power of dance: “I run integrated dance classes for the children and incorporate the use of Signing into all my classes; I want to create a safe and positive environment where everyone can express themselves,” she adds.

Katie is currently studying for a Level 3 Diploma in Mental Health, as well as finishing her second year on the BA Dance Education course at The Royal Academy of Dance.
