Ken Bartlett, Creative Director, Foundation for Community Dance
A recent feature in the Sunday Times quotes Colin Jackson CBE, world champion hurdler and runner-up in Strictly Come Dancing 2005 as saying 'If more people danced, the world would be a better place'. In this issue of Animated Fergus Early reminds us of the core principles of community dance that have guided his work, and his firm belief that' dance is a significant force for what might be called good', something demonstrated by Ginnie Wollaston's report on Birmingham Royal Ballet's project Ballet Hoo!

In our Focus we see examples of how dance professionals are building significant partnerships with artists from other forms and teachers to promote genuine creativity across schools and their communities. Jeanette Siddall and Kwesi Johnson report on recent developments to establish quality in-depth opportunities for young dancers, and in Johnson's case, the not so young dancer. This 'force for.good' is supported by the recent report for the government's Culture and Education Departments in England by Paul Roberts, Nurturing Creativity in Schools (www.culture.gov.uk).

Finally we feature the work undertaken by Petra Kuppers with hospice patients in Dunedin, New Zealand. Surely an example of dance making the world a better place.
