We are looking for a Classical Ballet teacher and tutor to men's classes on the ballet programme of study of Central’s three year, vocational BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance.

Ballet teacher and tutor to men’s classes on the ballet programme of study of Central’s three year, vocational BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Performance, preparing students for professional work as dancers, and for the degree.

The teacher will also be responsible for:

  • Establishing good communication with all other teachers and support staff
  • Submitting termly continuous assessment reports, to be received by the Head of Studies by the published date
  • Preparing and presenting the class for assessment at 2 or 3 points during the year depending upon year group
  • Being in attendance at all assessment classes for their own class and as many other assessment classes as can be arranged, and contribute to assessment marking
  • Being in attendance at assessment interviews and giving feedback
  • Supporting students on career planning and advising where appropriate
  • Sitting on the panel for auditions of prospective students which may include up to 6 additional days each year at weekends or in holiday periods
  • Contributing to School performances which may include choreography, teaching and rehearsing repertoire or assisting students with performance skills including preparation of hair, make-up and costumes
  • Participate in weekly Artistic Staff Meetings
  • Attending training and staff Continuing Professional Development activities
  • Learning and teaching repertoire and coaching for performance as required
  • Participating in the review and evaluation of the year’s work, through discussion for the module reports, review of module and end-of-year student feedback
  • Teaching on either the Spring or Summer short courses and contributing to Widening Participation and Access work for up to 6 additional days per year at weekends or in holidays
  • Engaging fully in induction and training in HE processes
  • Contribute to Academic Board, Learning and Teaching Committee and other committees as required, as well as planning sessions, artistic and other meetings
  • Adherence to all School policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to teach students the principles of classical ballet at different levels
  • Ability to teach male (and female) roles in ballet, pas de deux and ballet repertoire classes
  • Knowledge and experience of performing repertoire
  • Experience of working in a professional company as a dancer
  • Willingness to engage with vocational dance training within a higher educational framework
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Good written and spoken English
  • A commitment to working to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion within the teaching environment.

Desirable

  • Experience gained within a school or Higher Education environment
  • Understanding of other dance styles
  • Industry links
  • Practical knowledge of safeguarding.
