Perspectives on Practice Event: An introduction to Soft Skills in Dance: a Guidebook to Enhance your Practice
Location: Online
Timings: 12:30-13:30
Presented in association with Roehampton University Online via Zoom Free to attend, booking essential

Join authors Professor Sara Houston of Roehampton University and freelance dramaturg and dance artist Monica Gillette at this lunchtime presentation to learn more about An introduction to Soft Skills in Dance: a Guidebook to Enhance your Practice a free digital guidebook that aims to equip dance artists working within community settings with the tools to communicate and engage with the soft skills used in their practice.

Sara says: “Soft skills are patterns of thought, behaviours and communication. They support you in navigating your emotions and how you deal with interpersonal relationships. Soft skills encourage individual and personal approaches to working relations and social encounters. Soft skills have been endorsed by the World Economic Forum as being the most important skills for the future of work. The dance industry is no exception here. In fact, in participatory dance practices, soft skills are vital. This Guidebook is a learning and reflective resource to activate the dance artist's own soft skills living in their dance practice."

The guidebook’s reflective tools, games and provocations aim to enable dance artists to articulate their soft skills already living in their practice and to develop them with the people they work with. It's also to help dance artists in articulating their skills to sectors beyond dance too.

The guidebook, available in English and French, has been created as part of the Erasmus Plus funded project Empowering Dance - The Soft Skills Teaching and Learning Approach. It was launched in Bassano del Grappa, Italy at the Bmotion International Dance Festival in August 2022. It was created by the Empowering Dance project, a consortium of seven partners Kampnagel/K3 (Hamburg), HIIP (Zagreb), La Briqueterie CNCD (Paris), Dansateliers (Rotterdam), CSC Bassano del Grappa (Bassano del Grappa), University of Zagreb and University of Roehampton.

This Zoom event is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend.
