Applying for a DBS through People Dancing

The Enhanced DBS Check service is offered to members of People Dancing. An application pack can be requested by emailing: Shelley Trevelyan, Membership Services Coordinator, or telephoning People Dancing within office hours. Please see Membership Services for categories of membership and benefits. See below for information about applying and fees.

Types of Enhanced DBS Check

Enhanced DBS with barred list(s) Check is needed for the post if the duties include: Regulated Activity with children and/or adults
The DBS Certificate will show: any spent and unspent criminal convictions and if the applicant is on one of the ISA barred lists.

Enhanced DBS without barred list(s) Check is needed for the post include: NON Regulated Activity but the person is working with children
The DBS Certificate will show: any spent and unspent criminal convictions.

Applications for volunteers

The DBS definition of a volunteer is: a person working in a position for which there is no remuneration, other than out of pocket expenses. Applications at the volunteer rate cannot be made for students and/or people on work experience or placements.

Applications for volunteers are available through Professional Individual Membership or Professional Organisation, Associate Organisation and Educational Organisation membership of People Dancing. Applications for volunteers must include confirmation in writing on company letterhead that an individual is working on a voluntary basis.

DBS Enhanced Check fees

The fee for DBS Checks processed by People Dancing depends on your membership type. However, in each case we will charge £44 for an application for a paid role and if appropriate there will be an added People Dancing administration fee. A volunteer DBS check is free but may be subject to a People Dancing dministration fee.

Requesting a DBS application pack

People Dancing Members receive a DBS application pack upon request by email or phone (see below). The pack contains guidelines to assist in completing the form including a list of the necessary accepted items of original documentation to support the application. To request a DBS application pack, email or call a member of the team on 0116 253 3453 between 10am - 6pm, Mon-Fri. Disclosure & Barring Check processing time

Once an application has been received at our offices it will then be checked against the identity documents, countersigned, and sent to the DBS for processing within 2 weeks. The applicant’s identity documents will then be returned to the individual by Royal Mail Recorded/Signed For Delivery. The estimated processing time for each Disclosure is 4 to 6 weeks. There is no possibility of making an urgent application or trying to hurry one through.

Once a DBS certifcate has been issued it is important for the individual to keep it in a safe place as the DBS will not issue duplicate copies.
