Dance, health and wellbeing

Community dance has been at the forefront of recognising the wellbeing and health benefits of participating in dance and movement, and practitioners work across the health sector in five key ways: managing illness, care, health education, community development and teaching new ways to live. There have been key initiatives looking at the way that dance contributes positively to specific health agendas set by the National Health Service, prevention of falls in the elderly, tackling obesity, reducing the incidence of heart conditions and strokes, dealing with depression.

We have attempted to gather together the most significant information here. In The News is a collection of articles from news websites, the projects highlighted in Case Studies aim to inspire your work. CPD Opportunities lists specific training, whilst Funding, Resources and Research provide a cross-section of materials for your information. The Useful contacts cover a wide range of organisations. The Library page lists specific articles published in Animated about dance, health and well-being.
