Professional Individual Membership

Open to all individuals in the UK involved in community and participatory dance at a professional level. This membership is designed for dance artists, dance teachers and dance leaders providing community and participatory dance – either as a main focus or as part of a broader portfolio of work.

Insurance benefits
  • Sport, Recreation & Leisure Liability: A unique suite of insurances comprising; Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance of up to £10 million, Legal Expenses protection, Libel & Slander insurance, and Personal Accident insurance.

Please note: The above insurance benefits are subject to criteria and exclusions. Please read the related information on the insurance info pages before deciding to join. The Professional Code of Conduct must be signed to ensure continued access to Professional Individual membership.

Professional practice
  • Professional Code of Conduct: Sign up to the People Dancing Professional Code of Conduct, which translates the core values of community dance into standards of ethical and responsible practice
  • Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Checks: People Dancing can provide an Enhanced DBS Check for your work and/or those working for you in a DBS eligible position. Fees are explained here
  • DNA (Development Needs Analysis) online toolkit: A resource to asses your strengths and weaknesses and to identify areas of development, accessible through your membership profile
  • Dance for Parkinson's Network UK: Access this emerging network supported through strategic alliance with People Dancing. Network membership is invaluable if you're interested in/or working in dance for people with Parkinson's.
Access to information
  • Animated magazine: Two issues of the community dance magazine, plus access to an extensive online library and back issues. View online anytime, and choose to have issues delivered by post
  • Participate: Two issues of our publication focusing on the individuals and communities that dance in participatory settings, helping to reveal why people dance and what it means to them

Important: We are unable to provide short-term insurance through membership. In order to complete the joining process you will need to read and agree to our Terms & Conditions, a copy of which will also be sent to you when you join.

Joining and payment options

Online: Join online using a debit/credit card or PayPal account. You'll be directed to a page to complete your details and payment (please note: an online transaction fee of £2.50 applies). You will then receive a receipt and confirmation via email. Join online now.

By Phone: Call us and speak to a member of the team to join over the phone: 0116 253 3453. Office hours: 10am-6pm, Mon-Fri.

Monthly Direct Debit instalments: Call us on 0116 253 3453 and we'll take your details and send a Direct Debit Instruction. The completed Instruction is to be returned to us within two weeks, but your membership and insurance will commence on the day we take your call. Office hours: 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri. An admin fee of £5 applies to the Direct Debit payment option.

What next? When will I receive my insurance certificate?

Your membership and insurance will start on the day we receive payment and you will have instant online access to benefits. We will process your membership within seven to ten working days of receiving your application. Insurance certificate(s) will be sent to you via email and a People Dancing membership welcome pack will be sent to you in the post. If choosing to pay by Direct Debit, a payment schedule will be sent by email.
