People Dancing Networks Together: Environment & Social Justice
Location: Online (Zoom)
Timings: 9:30am - 12:30pm

What is the connection between social equity and climate action? How is it relevant to dancers and dance organisations? What positive action can we take?

This event will explore environment in the wider context of dance and our individual and collective responsibilities within our practice. Our Networks Together events seek to bring Network members into one space with a chance to explore a variety of topics. Each event will also host a Network specific session.

Join us on Thursday the 11 April 2024 - online, for our third Networks Together event exploring the theme of the environment and social justice.

This event provides the opportunity for network members to experience our main presenters, connect and engage with others in discussion, and explore how the theme of environment and social justice directly relates to their working practice, as well as feeling empowered to make small but lasting change.

For this event we are delighted to be joined online by Amanda Parker from Amanda Parker Associates, and Dr Lewis Coenen-Rowe, Culture/SHIFT Manager from Creative Carbon Scotland. Both presenters will provide insight into global and local environmental and social justice aspects, and the opportunity to reflect on our work more generally.

During the event there will be two discussion sessions with a chance for participants to meet and discuss, with other network members, as well as the regular sessions directly relating to practice for Early Years, Inclusion in Dance, Parkinson’s and Global Majority.

Amanda Parker session: Reflecting upon the intersection between social equity and climate action

Why does climate justice feel like a dialogue of privilege? What can we do to make this vital work feel more like the universal urgency that it actually is? Amanda Parker invites you to reflect on the intersection between social equity and climate action.

Creative Carbon Scotland session: Why UK dance performers and organisations should care about climate justice

What is climate justice? Where does the term come from and what does it mean globally? How is climate justice relevant to people living and working in the UK? How is climate justice relevant to dancers and dance organisations? What can I do next?

This session aims to give you some practical steps and resources that relates directly to your practice. The session is aimed at artists at any stage in their career and is suitable for people with no pre-existing knowledge of what climate justice is.
