Salary: Salary Grade - Ac3s - pro rated salary of £31,322 (FTE £47,389)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new fixed-term lecturer (maternity cover) to join our vibrant dance teaching team.

Dance at Bath Spa is renowned for its creative approach to training and you will be joining a thriving area that offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are physically and intellectually stimulating. Our dance graduates emerge as confident and versatile dance artists who are ready to use their skills in a diverse range of scenarios; this role is central in helping to achieve this.

About the Role

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality teaching in dance technique, choreography and performance practices, using a student-centred approach that support an inclusive learning environment. You will deliver both practical teaching and lectures that develop students’ critical understanding of the discipline and strengthens their practical, creative and analytical skills. You will draw on a strong professional and/or research profile to ensure teaching is current, relevant and informed by industry practice.

The role involves contributing to a vibrant programme of performances, showcases and events, supporting students in the creation and delivery of live work, and maintaining strong industry links to enhance opportunities such as collaborations, visiting practitioners and progression pathways. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the department and wider institution will be essential to support curriculum development and delivery.

Essential criteria

  • Relevant practical skills in codified and non-codified contemporary dance practices
  • HE teaching experience
  • A degree in a relevant subject area
  • Professional network/strong industry contacts
  • Inclusive, student-centred approach to learning.

Desirable criteria

  • A higher degree
  • Practical skills in commercial, ballet, contact improvisation, hip hop
  • Excellent ICT skills
  • Teaching qualification or membership of the Higher Education Academy.
