Having volunteers in a dance session, particularly in sessions where people need additional support, can make all the difference between whether the dance session takes place or not. This is where you come in. Volunteers are particularly helpful in sessions where there are very young children, older people, or people with particular health conditions, like Parkinson’s.
The Volunteering in Dance: Dance with Parkinson's Online Learning Course has been created by People Dancing for people who wish to volunteer in a dance session for people living with Parkinson’s.
It is a FREE high-quality resource that dance teaching artists and practitioners can use to signpost people who may already volunteer in a class or who may be interested in volunteering.
The aim of the course is to provide useful guidance about volunteering in dance sessions and specific information about what to expect in a dance session for people living with Parkinson’s.
By the end of the course we hope people will have learnt about the range of activities that might be undertaken as a volunteer to support a dance session, gained awareness about what to expect in a dance session for people with Parkinson’s and understood the benefits to volunteers and participants, of volunteering in a dance session for people living with Parkinson’s.
This course can be completed in one session (approximately 2 hours needed) or you can take breaks and return to it in your own time. You are welcome to take your own notes along the way and there is no formal assessment.
