People Dancing’s online training courses and in-person workshops are designed to support dancers, teaching artist and community practitioners to develop the skills and knowledge needed for high quality and inclusive dance work with people and communities.

Our online courses are developed in partnership with leading practitioners and organisations working in the field and experts from the People Dancing team. Courses can be accessed online 24hrs a day seven days a week so you can learn at a time and pace that suits you and your life. Our Summer Intensive is a unique annual in-person training programme that brings together dancers, teaching artists, community practitioners and staff from dance organisations for in-studio training of the highest calibre. Our programmes of workshops are diverse, inclusive and led by highly experienced and respected dance artists and practitioners.

Our courses and workshops can enable you to gain the skills and knowledge needed to obtain our Professional Qualifications, following successful completion of an assessment.

 

People Dancing Summer Intensive 2026 - save the date!

Tuesday 21 - Thursday 23 July 2026, at De Montfort University Leicester, England

Attend the Summer Intensive 2026 and join with like-minded teachers, artists and community practitioners in a supportive environment to take a deeper dive into practice you are passionate or curious about and fill up on inspiration for the year ahead. On offer will be:

  • A choice of workshops, with artists and practitioners who are leaders in their field
  • The chance to gain new and essential skills to develop your dance practice inside and outside the studio
  • Networking with peers from near and far to experience respite, refreshment and the joy of together. 

People Dancing have been running an annual in-person summer training 2009, providing training to over 1,500 people during this time.

Safer Community Dance Practice Online Course

This four-unit online course covers key issues relevant to all community dance artists and will give you the confidence to safely integrate health and safety principles to support your delivery of effective and, ideally, injury free dance sessions, regardless of the age and experience of your participants.

Successful completion of an assessment - available in conjunction with this online course - means you can gain the Professional Qualification/Certification Safer Community Dance Practice (Level 4 Certificate).

Introduction to leading dance with Older People Online Course

Devised in partnership with Diane Amans, one of the leading dance practitioners in this field internationally, this seven-unit online course stimulates thinking about what it means to grow old, what health issues may (or may not) have an impact on people as they age, and what issues dance practitioners should consider when planning dance sessions with older people.

Successful completion of an assessment - available in conjunction with this online course -means you can gain the Professional Qualification/Certification Approaches to Dance with Older People (Level 4 Certificate).

An Introduction to Leading Dance for Early Years Online Course

This six-unit online course is for people who want to rise to the challenge of working creatively, sensitively and respectfully with Early Years children through dance. It has been designed to help you gain knowledge so that you can feel confident about creating environments where babies, toddlers and preschoolers can explore with their whole bodies and all their senses.

This eight-unit online course, developed by People Dancing, Dance for PD®, and Mark Morris Dance Group provides dance practitioners and others with core foundational knowledge about the safe, effective, and creative delivery of dance sessions for people with Parkinson’s.

Improving Your Teaching Skills for Community Dance Practice Online Course

Developed and co-authored by People Dancing and the Urban Playground Team, this seven-unit online course will equip dancers, teaching artists and community practitioners with the skills and knowledge they need to improve or refresh their teaching skills within their community and participatory dance practice.

This course will assist you with the successful completion of assessments as part of the process of gaining the Professional Qualification/Certification Introduction to Teaching and Leading Dance in Community Contexts (Level 4 Diploma) - LAUNCHING AUTUMN 2025!
