White & Givan are delighted to launch Scotland's first national workforce surveys for dancers and dance teachers. The surveys will generate the first comprehensive picture of how Scotland's dance workforce sustains professional careers, while providing comparative data against elements of Creative Scotland's Dance Sector Review (2012).
The findings will help them develop and test Dancers Connected – a new initiative exploring how collaborative working across the sector, can better support professional freelance dancers to sustain long-term performing careers, while building stronger partnerships across the wider network of dance teachers and practitioners to nurture future talent, grow audiences and collectively strengthen Scotland's dance sector. They want to understand the realities of working as a dancer or dance teacher today, including professional opportunities, training, income, geography and career pathways. They also want to explore the vital role dance teachers and practitioners play in developing future dance talent and growing audiences across all dance forms.
The Dancers Connected Survey has reopened until Friday 11 September, and they particularly want to hear from final-year dance students and recent graduates. They're building a clearer picture of what it is really like to begin and sustain a professional dance career in Scotland.
They want to hear from more dancers who are right at the beginning of that journey; those in the final year of their professional training, and dancers who have graduated in the last few years.
Your experiences will help them understand how the sector can support the transition from education to employment more clearly and will directly inform the development of Dancers Connected – their work to explore new approaches to training, employment and career sustainability for freelance dancers in Scotland.
