Together in Dance: Exploring Attachment Through Movement
Location: Zoom, online
Timings: 12 – 1:30pm GMT
Join us online for this Early Years Dance event from People Dancing with artist Mafê Toledo, exploring attachment in early years dance.

This practical and discussion based session focuses on enhancing parent-child bonds, supporting family well-being, and fostering healthy development.

The session will explore the theme of attachment in the context of dance with early years children. It will explore ways to promote bond between parent and child, and how working with the whole family unit supports children’s healthy development whilst also increasing the wellbeing of parents.

Practitioners will understand the challenges of working with adults who have recently become parents and develop skills in including them as active participants.

Through dialogue, reflection and practical activities we will explore the idea of 'protected space' in parent-child dance and the considerations involved in that.

As this session involves an optional practical element, please wear something comfortable that you can move in, work in a safe environment and have access to a drinking water.

About Mafê Toledo

Mafê (read Mah-Fay) is a Brazilian-born community dance and movement practitioner. Her vision is a world where everyone is free to move, express themselves, and be fully seen.

Becoming a mother has deeply shaped Mafê’s practice. Her mission is to create inclusive, vibrant spaces where children and adults experience the world from the same perspective, cultivating connection, calm and joy. Working in partnership with arts organisations and children centres, in Mafê’s sessions adults explore their new identity as parents, whilst young children's voices are recognised and celebrated.

Mafê’s practice is deeply rooted in somatic education, particularly Body-Mind Centering®, which emphasises developmental movement and the experiential understanding of body systems. Mafê is a qualified Somatic Movement Educator (SME), Infant Developmental Movement Educator (IDME), a Master of Fine Arts in Choreography (Roehampton University) and has a Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (Trinity Laban).
