Online courses and qualifications offer for Dance for PD® members

People Dancing is delighted to be able to offer members of Dance for PD® a special discounted rate on the cost of purchasing our Online Courses and Professional Qualifications.

There are currently eight Online Courses and six Professional Qualifications to choose from and each course provides dance practitioners with a chance to learn at their own pace, at a time and in a place to suit themselves.

Whoever you work with in your dance practice we've got something for you!

Our courses have been developed in partnership with leading dance artists who specialise in delivering dance with particular populations, such as David Leventhal (Dance for PD®), Diane Amans (Dance with Older People), Liz Clark (dance for under 5s) and the Urban Playground Team. Whether you’re working with children under 5, seniors, or people living with Parkinson’s or simply want to improve your teaching skills or do a risk assessment, there’s a course for you.

Introduction to Leading Dance with Older People Online Course and Assessment

Devised in partnership with Diane Amans, one of the leading dance practitioners in this field, the online learning programme stimulates thinking about what it means to grow older, what health issues may (or may not) have an impact on people as they age, and what issues dance practitioners should consider when planning dance sessions with older people.

This course also provides learners with the opportunity to take an assessment for the Approaches to Dance with Older People Professional Qualification (see further information below).

 

Evidence your knowledge and understanding: Approaches to Dance with Older People Professional Qualification - Level 4 Certificate

If you want to be able to show to yourself and others that you have gained the knowledge and understanding that you need to work safely and creatively with older people take the assessment which leads to the qualification: Approaches to Dance with Older People (Level 4 Certificate).

Introduction to Dance for People with Parkinson's Online Course and Assessment

This eight-unit online course, developed by People Dancing, Dance for PD®, and Mark Morris Dance Group provides dance practitioners and others with core foundational knowledge about the safe, effective, and creative delivery of dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s. It covers the 10 core principles and the artistic imperative; medical condition and medication; safe practice and undertaking a risk assessment; teaching techniques – environment, setting expectation and providing cues; class design and structure; exercise design; translation for inclusion and accessibility.

It is aimed at dancers and teaching artists who have little or no prior experience of working with people living with Parkinson’s but wish to include them in their regular classes or set up sessions specifically for members of the Parkinson’s community.

This course also provides learners with the opportunity to take an assessment for the Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson’s Professional Qualification (see further information below).

 

  

Evidence your knowledge and understanding: Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson’s - Level 4 Certificate

If you want to be able to show to yourself and others that you have gained the knowledge and understanding that you need to work safely and creatively with people living with Parkinson’s take the assessment which leads to the qualification: Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson’s (Level 4 Certificate).

This professional qualification forms the basis of a number of training courses offered by such training partners as People Dancing, Dance for PD® / Mark Morris Dance Group, Dance for Parkinson’s Australia, and Dancing With Parkinson’s Canada / Canada’s National Ballet School. It enables dance artists to evidence their knowledge and understanding of key issues that may have an impact on people living with Parkinson's who participate in a dance session.

Volunteering in Dance: Dance with Parkinson's Online Course

This course has been created by People Dancing for people who wish to volunteer in a dance session for people living with Parkinson’s. It is a FREE high-quality resource that dance teaching artists and practitioners can use to signpost people who may already volunteer in a class or who may be interested in volunteering.


Volunteering in Dance: The Volunteering Handbook

This handbook has been developed by People Dancing as a resource that offers general guidance on what you may expect as a volunteer supporting community or participatory dance. It can be downloaded for FREE and can also be used in conjunction with the Volunteering in Dance: Dance with Parkinson's Online Learning Course.

RISK ASSESSMENT FOR PARTICIPATORY ARTS PRACITIONERS

Risk Assessment for Participatory Arts Practitioners Online Course and Assessment

This short online course, developed by People Dancing, aims to help dancers, dance practitioners and participatory artists working in other disciplines understand their legal responsibilities in relation to UK health and safety at work and provides guidance on what to do in the event that an incident takes place in relation to their class, rehearsal or general practice.

This course also provides learners with the opportunity to take an assessment for the Risk Assessment for Participatory Arts Practitioners Professional Qualification (see further information below).

If you want to be able to show to yourself and others that you have gained the knowledge and understanding to undertake a risk assessment, take this assessment which leads to the qualification: Risk Assessment for Participatory Arts Practitioners Qualification (Level 2 Award).

Improving Your Teaching Skills for Community Dance Practice Online Course

Launched in November 2020, developed by People Dancing and co-authored by the Urban Playground Team. This seven-unit online course will support dance artists to improve teaching skills in their community and participatory practice, and is relevant to dance artists working with any population or across a wide range of contexts.

If you’re new to teaching the course will introduce you to key skills and knowledge. If teaching is already part of your practice it will give you the chance to refresh and revisit ways of raising standards.

An Introduction to Leading Dance for Early Years Online Course and Assessment

This course is for those who want to rise to the challenge of working creatively, sensitively and respectfully with Early Years children through dance. Created in partnership with Liz Clark (Turned On Its Head/Our Creative Adventure) and with support from the Meadowbrook Charitable Trust, this six-unit online learning course has been designed to help you gain knowledge so that you can feel confident about creating  environments where babies, toddlers and preschoolers can explore with their whole bodies and all their senses.

This course also provides learners with the opportunity to take an assessment for the Approaches to Dance for Early Years Professional Qualification (see further information below).

 

Evidence your knowledge and understanding: Approaches to Dance for Early Years Qualification - Level 4 Certificate

Take the assessment which leads to the qualification Approaches to Dance for Early Years Qualification (Level 4 Certificate). This will enable you to evidence to potential employers and to yourself that you have gained the skills and knowledge you need to work with this population.

Safer Community Dance Practice Online Course

Whatever your dance style may be, this course will give you the knowledge to be able to successfully integrate and manage health and safety principles that are relevant to community and participatory dance practice.

This four-unit online course covers key issues relevant to all community dance artists and will give you the confidence to safely integrate health and safety principles to support your delivery of effective and, ideally, injury free dance sessions, regardless of the age and experience of your participants.

This course will also provides learners with the opportunity to take an assessment for the Application of Safer Dance Practice Professional Qualification (see further information below).

 

Evidence your knowledge and understanding: Application of Safer Dance Practice Qualification - Level 4 Certificate

Take the assessment which leads to the qualification Safer Dance Practice (Level 4 Certificate). This will enable you to evidence to potential employers and to yourself that you have gained the skills and knowledge needed to deliver safer dance practice in community contexts.

Professional Practice for Participatory Artists Qualification - Level 3 Award

The Professional Practice for Participatory Artists - Level 3 Award is a single unit qualification that enables participatory artists working in any art form to evidence their understanding of key issues relating to their professional practice.

Topics include: ethics, values and ethos in relation to participatory arts practice; codes of professional conduct; UK National Occupational Standards (NOS); continuing professional development; SWOT analysis; UK sector support organisations, networks and mechanisms.

Developing Income Streams for Participatory Arts Practice Online Course

The course covers a range of topics including: understanding and self-assessing your project needs; creating a balanced budget; raising money from commercial, individuals and public subsidy sources (UK); communicating with people about your work; legal structures in the UK pertaining to funding models; understanding timescales and grant-maker’s criteria.
