Does it suddenly feel like time is ticking and the end of your course is fast approaching? Or are you staring down the middle of it wondering what's at the end? Come and have a friendly chat with People Dancing’s Higher Education team and Ellie Trow and Pagan Hunt from Pelican Theatre. They will offer advice and answer your questions about setting yourself up to succeed in making the shift from study into employment in dance.
Tick tock tick tock...

As everyone starts asking what you will be doing post-graduation, you may be asking yourself:

“How do I know how to...

  • find out what my options are and my career journey might be?
  • start now to give myself the best chance of the job I want in dance?
  • find further training or specialise in a particular field?
  • begin to put the right things in place and a make a plan for my future?”

One answer: come spend an hour with us!

You are warmly invited to an online session from your People Dancing Higher Education Membership specialists to explore what we offer within and beyond your studies. You can ask questions and get guidance on anything from your first job to your whole career path.

You will also meet guest artists Ellie Trow and Pagan Hunt, whose company, Pelican Theatre rose with inspiring resilience from the ashes of an MA graduation straight into the difficult days of the 2020 global pandemic and is now establishing its work in the North East of England.

Ellie and Pagan will talk about their community dance practice and the space it has come to take up in their professional work. You can read about some of that journey in Pagan's article for Animated magazine here and their work alongside people living with Parkinson's here.

About Ellie Trow

Ellie grew up in Cheshire before studying in London, and is now based in the North East. She started her dancing career at Louise Carter’s School of Dance in Congleton where she found her love of performing, before joining Homegrown Youth Dance Company and discovering contemporary dance. Alongside this, she was part of The Lowry’s CAT scheme in Manchester, and all of this lead to her passion for access to contemporary dance in youth settings.

Ellie enjoys working with a range of art forms - including dance, theatre, photography and textiles. Some of the performance experiences that have most influenced her include ‘The Seagull(s)’ by Lost Dog, ‘Midwinter Magic’ by Motionhouse Dance Theatre, ‘Sacred Myths’ by Tanusree Shankar and Protima Chatterjee and ‘Busby’ by Roisin Whelan.

Ellie is passionate about working with children and young people, is keen to assist those interested in dance to find their own passion and always strives to keep mental wellbeing at the heart of her practice.

About Pagan Hunt

Pagan is a dance artist raised in Telford, Shropshire, now based in the North East. She trained in ballet, tap and modern at Carmichaels School of Dance before starting her contemporary training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She completed her training on the MA company at Dance City, led by David Lloyd.

Pagan has performed nationally and internationally with Desi Nach Event Entertainment since 2014, and recently joined the show Spark! with Worldbeaters Music as an LED drummer. She has collaborated with makers on R&D and performances projects, including Northern Dance, EQ Dance Company, Fertile Ground, Jamaal Burkmar, Roisin Whelan, Lucie Labadie and Douglas Thorpe/Mad Dogs Dance Theatre.

Pagan hopes to be involved in projects that drive positive change in the world, and is passionate about connecting communities through dance.

"We first met during our training at Trinity Laban, before living and training together on the 2019/20 MA at Dance City Newcastle. During this time we worked on projects with Lost Dog, Gecko Theatre, and David Lloyd, as well as a variety of guest artists workshops and ballet training with Angela Reay.

We realised we have a complementary approach to creating, working well together and balancing one another’s skills. We have similar goals in both art and life, and as good friends we want to continue to collaborate, and contribute to the vibrant North East arts community together."
