In the film below dance artist Tamar Dixon talks to People Dancing Associate Artist Louise Katerega about her Podcast series, ‘INSiGHTZ: An insight into your dance journey’.

Tamar describes her podcasts as a series of interviews, personal stories, experiences and hot topics about dance. Tamar and all the interviewees explore dance, culture and identity from a global perspective.

Starting in Jamaica, the episodes capture unique voices discussing issues around the female body, inner city communities, education and dance of the African diaspora.

Biography

With over 10 years of experience within the dance industry, Tamar has developed a strong passion and commitment to dance education, community engagement and international arts collaboration. An Educator, Arts Administrator, Community Dance Practitioner, Writer and founder of podcast series: INSiGHTZ. Being multifaceted, Tamar supports the development and profile of dance through travelling worldwide, to immerse in dance culture, building links and engaging with communities.
 
Upon graduation in BA (Hons) Professional Dance Development in 2014, Tamar has worked alongside established dance companies and organisations such as ACE dance and music, 2Faced dance, Newhampton Arts Centre and later DanceXchange and One Dance UK. During the early stages of her career, she volunteered with local art festivals across the West Midlands and nationally. Such as Culture Central, Hippodrome Creative, B-SIDE Hip Hop Festival, PHD Events and ArtsFest.
 
Now leading her own community based dance company, Unique Movez Dance Collective. Founded in 2018 and supported by the Prince’s Trust. Unique Movez aims to engage, embrace and empower intersectional communities through workshops and outreach projects such as Express Ya Self: Women’s Only Dance & Empowerment Workshop.
 
Alongside her freelance work, writing and post graduation, Tamar expanded her commitment to cultural arts and travelled across five countries for cultural exchange programmes and professional development; Thailand, Italy, Senegal, Cuba and Jamaica. Working with TEFL, Erasmus+, Ecole Des Sables, Brouhaha UK and Manifesto Jamaica.
 
For 2020 and beyond, Tamar shares her new podcast series INSiGHTZ: An insight into your dance journey. A platform vocalising dance from the global perspective! Tamar wishes to reach out to more dance enthusiasts, build more opportunities in community dance and continue to educate and inspire education with more resources!
