People Dancing is looking for an experienced, curious, creative person to lead, champion and advocate the development of dance and cultural activity alongside people living with Parkinson’s in Greater Manchester.

Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s is an ambitious, exciting, bold and creative programme of dance and community action for people living with Parkinson’s, their carers and families. In this unique opportunity you will develop and sustain area partnerships, alongside offering ongoing programme advocacy and local programme support. You will drive forward the ambitions of the programme in Greater Manchester.

  • Timescale: October 2021 - October 2022 (fixed-term freelance contract for 1 year)
  • Fee: £3,000.00, for 24 days during the agreed period of work at £125.00 per day working flexibly

About Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s

In an exciting collaboration between People Dancing, Principal Creative Partner and Associate Company, English National Ballet we will bring together area creative coordinators, dance teaching artists, local partners and communities of people with lived experience of Parkinson’s. Together we will build a local programme of activity to experience the joy of dancing; to be creative and curious, celebrate equality and inclusion; to have fun, socialise and meet new people.

At its heart, Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s aims to create access to new opportunities for dance and creativity and establish greater connectivity between people across community and peers. Legacy and sustainability will be embedded in the programme by the development of the local area steering group.

Whilst dance activity and cultural activity offered will be planned and delivered locally, in partnership with people living with Parkinson’s, the programme will have a national impact across programmes of artist training, partnership developments and approaches to increasing access and participation in dance.

Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s Area Creative Coordinator.

The role:

The Area Creative Coordinator will connect, activate and champion the project in their identified geographical location. The role will drive forward the ambition of the programme alongside communities of people living with Parkinson’s to create and develop partnerships sustaining dance/cultural activity in the local area. Central to this work will be the broad ranging area steering group who will meet to inspire and guide area plans and activity.

You will work closely with and be supported by the core project team at People Dancing and Programme Director in line with the overall schedule agreed in each area. You will work in partnership with Trailblazer Activists – people living with Parkinson’s who actively support and advocate for the project in your location.


  • You will provide a key point of coordination and connection in your area location – between people with lived experience of Parkinson’s, steering group members and local partners; local Parkinson’s groups/hub members, local artists & volunteers and the People Dancing team
  • Shape the local area and national plans, and artistic programme in partnership with communities of people living with Parkinson’s, the local steering group, various stakeholders, Area Creative Coordinators in the 5 other locations and the Programme Director
  • Work with Trailblazer Activists to share expertise, knowledge and advocacy across your local community of people living with Parkinson’s.

The following areas of work are a guide to activity and will be undertaken in close liaison with and fully supported by the core delivery team at People Dancing:

  • Coordinate and convene an area based steering group to drive programmes; develop and deliver area plan (approx. 4-6 meetings per year)
  • Initiate and support local partnership development & liaison
  • Sustain and build locations/partners for activities across the geographical area and Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s programme (dance classes, taster sessions, seminars, research & continuing professional development)
  • Co-curate presentations, seminars
  • Recruit and manage artists, volunteers and people living with Parkinson’s as advocates/activators
  • Identify area fundraising opportunities & partnerships to support & embed activity locally
  • Support ongoing local activities as needed
  • Contribute to local communications of all kinds
  • Develop & maintain record of contacts, individuals and organisations by creating an area database
  • Contribute towards review and evaluation of progress and activity in the local area and the wider programme
  • In liaison with the Programme Director opportunities for attendance at seminars, conferences and professional development activity linked to the overall programme will be supported and encouraged.


  • 1-year fixed term (freelance)
  • Homeworking, with local and occasionally travel within England. The role is not subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • A fee of £3,000.00, for 24 days during the agreed period of work at £125.00 per day working flexibly to suit freelance schedule and requirements of the project
  • Administrative and other expenses will be paid subject to advanced agreement with the Programme Director. The payment schedule will be agreed between the role holder and People Dancing to reflect the work to be undertaken
  • The work undertaken will be covered by People Dancing’s insurance policies, and cover under our Civil Liability insurance policy will be arranged for the contractor.
