Doing Arts guides from Mencap
Mencap has published a series of practical introductory guides to running arts projects for people with a learning disability

The five guides, collectively called Doing Arts are practical information sources for those helping people with a learning disability to engage in a range of arts.

They contain images and contributions from leading arts organisations and authorities in the field of learning disability arts. The guides can be purchased as a set or individually. Each one focuses on a different discipline of the arts containing specialist advice and tips from the contributors:

  • Doing Drama: Tim Wheeler, Artistic Director of Mind the Gap theatre company
  • Doing Photography: Ivan Riches, freelance photographer working with Action Space
  • Doing Dance: Susan Norwood, Education Director of Anjali Dance Company.
  • Doing Visual Art: Kate Adams, Artistic Director of Project Art Works
  • Doing Music: Gus Garside, Mencap National Arts Co-ordinator and Rod Paton of Life Music

The guides are available for £5 each or £20 for all five (free to Mencap affiliated groups).

The guides can be ordered from Gus Garside, National Arts Co-ordinator, Mencap, Burrell Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex. RH16 1TW, or email gus.garside@mencap.org.uk.
