Professional Individual Membership
Open to all individuals in the UK involved in community and participatory dance at a professional level, this membership is designed for dance artists, dance teachers and dance leaders providing community and participatory dance – either as a main focus or as part of a broader portfolio of work.

Professional Individual Membership fees

Please note the following before joining:

  • Insurance is included as a benefit of Professional Individual Membership of People Dancing. Insurance is not offered as a stand alone product
  • Professional Individual Membership runs from the date joined up to 31 March
  • Fees are based on an annual turnover of up to £50,000 and are subject to a one-off joining fee of £10 which is included in the fees shown below
  • Fees are inclusive of VAT.

Joining between the following periods runs up to 31 March 2025. Fee includes membership and insurance from date joined and up to 31 March 2025

  • Joining between 1 March 2024 - 31 March 2024: £110
  • Joining between 1 April 2024 - 30 June 2024: £100
  • Joining between 1 July 2024 - 30 September 2024: £80
  • Joining between 1 October 2024 - 31 December 2024: £60

    Professional Individual Membership offers some brilliant benefits, which are all about supporting you in your work:

    Insurance benefits included in Professional Individual Membership:
    • Civil Liability: A unique suite of insurances comprising; Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance of up to £10Million, Legal helpline, and Personal Accident insurance. 
    • Employer's Liability insurance: For employing extra help for your work
    • Pilates teaching cover: For occasional Pilates teaching
    • Equipment cover of up to £500
    • Public Liability cover for an indemnity of £10Million in respect of professional performances for earnings from this up to £15k per annum.

    Insurance benefits include cover for dance teaching work either in person or online such as; virtual, live, pre-recorded classes (subject to the usual risk assessments and general conditions of the policy).

    The above insurance benefits are subject to exclusions. Important: We are unable to provide short-term insurance through membership.

    Professional practice
    • Professional Code of Conduct: All Professional Individual Members are required to sign up to the People Dancing Professional Code of Conduct, which translates the core values of community dance into standards of ethical and responsible practice
    • DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) checks: People Dancing can provide an Enhanced DBS check for your work and/or those working for you in a DBS eligible position. Fees are explained here
    • Live Well & Dance with Parkinson's: Support for artists and practitioners developing and leading in work for dance for people with Parkinson's, through introductory courses, continuing professional development events and workshops.
    Access to information
    • Animated magazine: Access to the latest edition of Animated, the community dance magazine, plus access to an extensive online library and back issues
    • e-newsletters: Receive a regular jobs e-newsletter and the latest news from People Dancing
    • Reduced fees for  People Dancing's events & courses
    • A Certificate of Membership, and People Dancing Professional Member logo for use on your publicity
    • Access to fact sheets on a range of subjects, and compliance information.

    Joining and payment options

    Online: Join online using a debit/credit card or PayPal account. You'll be directed to a page to complete your details and payment. You will then receive a receipt and confirmation via email.

    In order to complete the joining process you will need to read and agree to our Terms & Conditions, a copy of which will also be sent to you when you join.

    What next? When will I receive my Evidence of Cover?

    Your membership and insurance will start on the day we receive payment and you will have instant online access to benefits. We will process your membership within seven to ten working days of receiving your application. Membership confirmation and an Evidence of Cover note will be sent to you via email.
